Cavour 82, Archello Best of 2021

Florence, Italy | Architecture is an act of creation. Not only the creation of new spaces, but also new meanings and functions, as well as new relationships and perspectives. Color, light and geometry were used to rethink this intimate apartment in Florence, Italy. The property has been transformed by the Italian studio Pierattelli Architettura into a contemporary and functional house designed exclusively for the young professional who owns it.

The design features natural materials such as wood and stone combined with touches of color that add warmth to the rooms and glass elements that amplify the spaces to create a welcoming and inviting atmosphere without sacrificing comfort and individuality.

A few steps from the Giardino dei Semplici, the second oldest botanical garden in the world, the 65 square meter duplex apartment is the result of a renovated attic on the top floor of a 19th century building. Cavour82 is a beautiful fusion of balance and transparency. The heart of the project is the open-plan living area. This leads to a series of private spaces, in particular the attic and the master bedroom, which is accessed via a flush door and which overlooks an internal courtyard.

The spaces are designed to be comfortable and practical and are divided in a distinct but permeable way that showcases light and transparency but also ensures privacy and coziness.

The Florentine architectural firm used the impressive height of the original single-story space for maximum effect, creating a mezzanine level for a second bedroom, a private bathroom and a steam room. A burnished metal glass partition separates the two levels but also adds a sense of permeability and, as a result, the entire apartment is evenly bathed in the light that shapes the spaces inside.

The rooms feature soft and natural tones that add a warm and welcoming feel (including teal green in the living area and a stunning ultramarine blue in the master bedroom) while the dark oak slatted floor creates a seamless flow . The overall result is a fresh and open apartment where additional spaces and volumes are combined together with an elegant use of materials and colors.
