“To develop the project for a power station at Suvereto (LI), we began with the idea of creating a strong bond between the architecture and the territory. The context is a place of remarkable beauty, an oasis of peace and calm: we have enthusiastically met the challenge of creating a work of architecture in perfect tune with the setting. For this reason, we have chosen to insert clear references to the territory in the design, starting with the selection of the materials: the terracotta used on the outside matches hues in the surrounding landscape, reflecting its tones, beauty and warmth. We have used it for the modular façades of the main building – composed of geometric earthenware parts in various sizes and tones, attached to steel cables – but also for the ventilated façade of the warehouse. For the design of the earthenware elements we worked with Manetti Gusmano & Figli, a historic firm from the Impruneta district, specialized in ventilated walls and architectural facings in earthenware. Active for eight generations and with over three centuries of experience, the company recently acquired the trademark Sannini and all its know-how, to approach technologically advanced solutions in the design, production and dry installation of thick claddings for architecture, becoming a leading brand in this sector”.
